Modern where you have to live with it.

Everybody builds Fords. This is a 1926 Dodge coupe. The fenders and running boards are still on it, which is a deliberate choice — plenty of builders throw them away and wreck the proportions doing it. This one keeps them, sits level and low on a staggered wheel and tire package, and just looks right.

What's underneath is where the planning shows. The frame is the original 1926 Dodge item with the VIN still legible on it, not an aftermarket chassis with a body dropped over the top. Up front is a three-inch dropped solid axle out of a 1948 Chevy pickup. Behind that sits a 5.2 liter Magnum V8 and a 46RE four-speed automatic with overdrive, both out of a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. A Mopar drivetrain in a Mopar body only adds to this car's story. This will start conversations everywhere you go. It was built by someone who has put together a number of complete cars over the years. This wasn't a first attempt.

The result looks traditional standing still and behaves like something built this century once you turn the key. Factory fuel injection means it starts cold every time. Overdrive means it isn't screaming at seventy. Vintage Air heat and air conditioning — recharged this season and blowing cold — means August in Texas isn't an argument. Plenty of cars this old look this good, but only a few of them are this straightforward to actually drive somewhere in.

Body and Paint

This is a solid California car with no rust and no patch panels, brought to Texas to be completed. The body was stripped completely before paint, which confirmed how rust-free it is. The body is finished in Kia Telluride "Sangria", paint code M2R — a 2020s factory color on a 1926 body, which sounds like it shouldn't work and does. It's a deep maroon that reads nearly black in shade and shows its depth in sun.

The top is new, all the glass is new and tinted, and the rear carries a custom rollpan. Dual exhaust exits at the back. The underside photographs were taken on a lift and show the floors, chassis, driveline and exhaust: painted, clean, and out in the open. They are in the listing for a reason.

The paint was sprayed in-house during the build. Asked to rate it, the builder calls it a seven or an eight out of ten, and he is a hard man on his own work. Take that as the honest description it is: a strong driver-quality finish, not a concours car, and priced as such.

Chassis and Suspension

Original 1926 Dodge frame with the VIN visible on it. Front suspension is a three-inch dropped solid axle from a 1948 Chevy pickup. Brakes are power assisted, discs at the front and drums at the rear, and the steering is a CPP power steering box — two things that make an old car genuinely usable rather than merely period-correct. Out back is a Ford 8-inch running an open 3.00 gearset. Wheels are Race Star, 15x7 up front on 205/75R15 and 17x8 at the rear on 235/65R17, which works out to roughly 27 inches of tire at the front and 29 at the rear. That stagger is where the rake comes from. The tires went on about two and a half years ago.

Engine and Drivetrain

Dodge 5.2 liter Magnum V8 from a 2001 Ram 1500, still running factory fuel injection, backed by the 46RE four-speed automatic with overdrive from the same truck. The wiring is a Painless Wiring harness built for putting late-model powertrains into older cars — it keeps the factory computer, which manages both the engine and the transmission's overdrive and converter lockup. Hand-spliced wiring is where swapped cars go wrong. This one wasn't done that way. Fuel comes from a Tanks Inc. 16-gallon EFI tank, the correct way to feed injection rather than a modified original tank with a pump hung off it. Cooling is a custom aluminum radiator with a Cooling Concepts two-speed electric fan.

The 3.00 gearing with an overdrive top gear and a 29-inch tire puts seventy miles an hour easy without winding the motor out.

Interior

The interior is the builder's own work, in black vinyl over a single pleated bench — he has trimmed a number of cars. It's a coupe, so there is no rear seat, and the belts are front lap belts. The door panels and the headliner are the same material as the seat.

The dash is painted body color and carries a polished panel of Dakota Digital gauges in a chrome bezel. Between the seats is a console with a floor shifter and cupholders. The two knobs in the center of the dash are the Vintage Air controls; the rectangular unit between them is an unbranded aftermarket head unit. Speaker grilles are set into the panel behind the seat. The steering wheel is a wood rim on a polished three-spoke center. Black carpet, polished pedal pads, door tops painted body color over black lowers. The windows are crank.

Documentation and Paperwork

The build was finished in 2024 and has covered roughly 1,500 miles since. There are no known issues. The build book goes with it — photographs of the car through the build, handed to the buyer. On a hundred-year-old body that is worth more than any description, because it shows what went on underneath before the paint went on. The title is a clean and clear Texas title in the owner's name, no salvage or rebuilt brand and no lienholder, and the car is currently registered and insured. The VIN and the odometer reading go to serious buyers directly rather than into a public ad; a 1926 vehicle is exempt from odometer disclosure in any case.

Location and Viewing

The car is in Tioga, Texas. It runs and drives, so it can be driven onto a trailer, into a truck, or to your door if you'd rather. There is a spare tire mounted on the back. Buyers are welcome to inspect the car in person, or to have it inspected by a qualified third party before purchase. Transportation costs and arrangements are the buyer's responsibility. The owner will work with the buyer directly on coordinating pickup.

Representation

This car is advertised by Flat Broke Speed on behalf of its owner, who built it and is known to us personally for decades.
