Try finding a pair of 1939 wide five caps this clean.
Reproduction Early Ford hub caps are everywhere — for 1936, for 1940, for 1941. Nobody reproduces the 1939 Deluxe wide five. So when a wide five car needs caps, you're shopping used, and used wide five caps have spent eighty years on a car: rust specks through the chrome, scratches across the face, flaking at the mounting edge.
These two never went on a car. Matched pair of Ford V8 wide five hub caps, new old replacement stock, with the original boxes. The box says exactly what they are — Replacement Hub Cap No. 2028C, For Ford 1936-39 Pass. Car — All Models, Full Nickel & Chrome Plated — and both caps carry the 2028C ink stamp inside with the embossed V8 script on the face. They cross-reference to Ford's 91A-1130.
The plating is a big reason they've survived this well. Full nickel under full chrome, the period process, on steel. Many modern flash-plated reproduction caps are thinner and don't have the same depth of finish; these are deep and bright with no pitting and no flaking anywhere. At roughly 11-1/2 inches lip to lip, a wide five cap is a big, conspicuous piece of trim — it's the first thing anyone sees at a show, and there's nowhere to hide a bad one.

🚗 Known Fitment and Applications
- 1936 1937 1938 1939 Ford passenger cars, all models — Ford used the wide five wheel across all four of those years, which is why one cap covers the range. Ford moved to the five-on-five-and-a-half pattern for 1940, so these do not fit 1940-up.
- Fits original Ford 16 in. wide five wheels
- Matches the 1939 Ford Deluxe V8 pattern
- Early Ford, Flathead V8, traditional hot rod and period-correct restoration use
- Compare against your own wheels before buying — measure your existing cap or the wheel's cap register against the photos
Additional applications beyond those listed may exist.
✅ Condition Summary
Excellent new old stock. The plating is deep and fully intact on both caps — no pitting, no flaking, no rust, no dents, and no mounting wear, consistent with never having been installed. Both original boxes are included; one is in great shape and the other is honestly worn, and under direct light the inside faces of the caps show faint handling marks with the ink stamps reading clearly — all normal for boxed shelf stock of this age. Please look at every photo.
📋 Buyer Notes
These came out of a garage lot purchased from a retired Southern California restorer who's stepping away from the hobby — he restored a 1936 Ford and kept good parts around, and this pair came out of that stash. Go through the photos carefully before buying; they show the plating, the V8 emblem, the 2028C stamps, the tape measure and the boxes, and they're the best evidence of what you're getting. Confirming these match your wheels is the buyer's responsibility, and measuring beats assuming. Other applications may exist beyond those described. Ask anything you like before you buy. If you're working on an Early Ford, the rest of the store is worth a look.
